Homeowners disguising bedrooms to avoid Hips

According to research by Abbey, a considerable amount of homeowners would look to disguise a bedroom in order to avoid purchasing a home information pack (Hips).

Abbey’s survey established 4.5 million owners of properties with 4 or more bedrooms would choose to disguise a room. The recent roll-out of Hips now being compulsory for 3-bedroom properties has resulted in a further 4 million planning to disguise a bedroom as a playroom, a walk-in wardrobe or a study.

A spokesperson for Abbey recommended that this isn’t the way forward as marketing a home in this way may lose the interest of prospective buyers. Furthermore, the property may seem over-valued to many as prospective buyers will be comparing the price of your larger home against someone else’s.

Families looking to buy a 4-bedroom house are now receiving comprehensive information on how to make savings on energy bills following the introduction of Hips according to the communities minister Iain Wright
